Name: Preincarnation: Eren Yeager
Reincarnation: Alan Hunter
Canon: Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) Note: spoilers for the manga contained within. Proceed with caution if you're only watching the anime.
Age: 15
Preincarnation Appearance: here!
Any differences: Nothing significant. He's a little less thin and muscled, and less prone to INTENSE STARES.
Preincarnated History: Here's a link!
For the most part, Eren's early childhood seems to have been fairly normal for kids in his world. Sure, his father was a famed doctor who had something secret locked up in their basement, but it wasn't anything strange enough to make them stand out. However, Eren did manage to stand out by himself - he was not like the other kids. Together with his friend Armin, he dared to dream of seeing the world outside the walls despite the bullying and derision the taboo subject earned them. His aspirations were not the only thing about Eren, either. At the tender age of nine, he rescued another child, Mikasa, from slavers that had murdered her parents and kidnapped her. He did this by very intentionally killing two of them and encouraging Mikasa to kill the third. I'll talk about that a bit more in the personality section, but for now the only important thing about it is that Mikasa joined the Yeager family as Eren's adoptive sister.
Then along came the Colossal Titan and ruined Eren's happy family life. After watching his mother eaten alive right in front of him, he swore he would personally slaughter every single titan until none were left. Some time during the next two years, he gained the power to do just that, though he would learn of it only years later. The exact details of what happened are as much of a mystery to Eren as they are to the audience - all he has is a vague memory of his father injecting him with some kind of drug and telling him to go to the basement of their destroyed house at any cost. Weird incidents with his father aside, Eren spent most of those two years with Mikasa and Armin, cultivating land with the other refugees. As soon as they turned twelve and were thus old enough to enlist, all three joined the army. Despite some early mishaps and a lack of any particular talents, Eren's resolve got him through a grueling three years of training and into the top ten graduates of his squad.
The day after their graduation, the Colossal Titan reappeared to breach the wall once again. Though the army was better prepared this time and all civilians in the district were successfully evacuated, the battle against the invading titans went downhill very quickly. Most of Eren's squad was wiped out, and he himself was swallowed whole while saving Armin's life. Trapped in a titan's stomach, missing an arm and a leg, he was filled rage and repeated his oath of vengeance against all titans.
The next thing he knew, he was surrounded by a dozen terrified soldiers, all pointing their weapons at him. It turned out that he had a strange power he himself had been completely unaware of - the ability to turn into a titan. As Armin and Mikasa desperately tried to convince everyone that he was not a monster, he suddenly regained that memory of his father from three years ago along with a faint awareness of how to use his power. Almost immediately, he had to use it again. Armin had convinced their superiors that Eren was on humanity's side and come up with a plan to prove it. Eren was given the task to block the breach in the wall with a massive rock, allowing the titans to be pushed back. Though he initially failed to control the titan form and many soldiers died, the operation was a success, giving humanity its first ever victory against the titans.
After a painful trial and much negotiation, Eren was enlisted in the Recon Corps as it was determined he could do the most good and least harm with them. He was thrilled, since joining them had been his intention all along. Things were not as great as he'd hoped, though - as an important military asset, he was constantly guarded and not allowed to go into battle unless his titan powers were absolutely necessary. And, of course, soon it all got even worse. On his first mission outside the walls, they were attacked by a strange female titan. From her intelligent and ruthless behaviour, it soon became obvious that she was a shifter like Eren and wanted to capture him. Though she did not succeed, the Recon Corps suffered huge losses and overall the mission was considered a failure.
Well, they did get one thing out of it - Armin was able to deduct that the female titan was Annie, one of the former members of their training squad. Despite his trouble accepting that she was a traitor, Eren fought and defeated her. During the battle a piece of the wall was torn away, revealing the face of a dormant titan. It was discovered that the walls contained countless titans and were in fact created using their ability to harden their skin. While Eren was still wounded and reeling from these revelations, another disaster was already underway - titans had been seen within the walls. Another wall had been breached. Or had it?
As it turned out, the walls were still intact and something very strange was going on. However, Eren didn't have time to worry about that because he was given another shocking revelation. His two squadmates and friends, Reiner and Bertolt, were the Colossal and Armored Titans responsible for the initial breaking of the walls. Reiner asked Eren to come with them to their home village. Eren, unsurprisingly, declined. They had a huge fight that ended with the two traitors kidnapping a wounded Eren, as well as Ymir, who had also been recently revealed to be a titan shifter.
Currently the four are on their way to parts unknown. Eren woke up briefly, but his enraged outbursts accomplished very little and in the end he was knocked unconscious again. The three other shifters discussed some cryptic and potentially very disturbing matters, but Eren paid that little attention. His fate remains yet to be seen.
Reincarnated History: Alan's parents, a pair of elementary school teachers, have always both been very kind and supportive of him. However, he doesn't like to see his father in that light. He was eight when his parents got a divorce, and though it was a relatively quiet and peaceful affair, he's felt vaguely resentful of his father ever since. He gave up the right to raise his son, so he can't be as nice as Alan remembers him being, right? They've only had very brief meetings in the last seven years, so he hasn't received any real evidence to either prove or disprove this notion and simply does not think of his dad very often most of the time.
The neighbourhood he grew up in had few other children, so through his early childhood he got used to spending most of his time alone drawing things. He did have some friends, enough that he wasn't actually lonely, and they were the ones to introduce him to his second passion - superheroes. The stories of caped heroes fighting forces of evil with fantastic powers caught his imagination enough that soon he was drawing them all the time. For a while, he was determined to become Batman when he grew up.
Even when he started school and started to make more friends there, Alan still liked to draw more than play with the other kids. That didn't hurt his social life too much, though - with his extroverted personality, drawing cool things like superheroes helped his popularity rather than hinder it, at least early on. By the time he entered the stage where his interests started to be seen as dorky, he'd already cemented his status as someone safe from bullying.
Though he went through a number of clubs and activities during his school years, none could ever fully grab Alan's attention. Even art club wasn't for him - he kept getting into fights over creative differences. That didn't really bother him. Though his social circle in real life had started to diminish back to what it had been in his childhood, he'd discovered the wonderful world of the internet, full of new and exciting people who shared his interests. And a lot of people who didn't. It took a while, but he learned to ignore the jerks and listen only to the ones who said nice things. Those people were the ones who helped him decide to pursue his dreams and make a living out of art. His mom and art teachers keep telling him that it's not as easy as just wanting it, but what do they know? His fans on deviantArt are the people who really understand art.
First Echo: One day when he was out in the park painting, Alan noticed a weird-looking...squirrel? It must have been a squirrel, even if no squirrel ever had a face like that. He shrugged it off, made a note to try drawing something like that later because it would make a cool monster and went home.
There was a jacket draped on a chair in his room when he got back. He had no idea where it came from, but somehow he could tell it was his and that the winged crest on it was significant. Weird, but cool.
Preincarnation Personality: Eren's core personality trait is his strength of will and determination. In one way or another, everything about the way he thinks, feels and acts is built around that. It gives him resolve, allowing him to push himself much further than most people, but also makes him stubborn and headstrong. He has a strong set of beliefs that drive him, and he's not willing to budge from those beliefs no matter what happens. Most importantly of all, he sees freedom as a birthright for every human being and those who would interfere with that freedom as the lowest of the low.
That contempt for people with no respect for the freedom of others, more than anything else, is what made Eren kill Mikasa's captors as a child. In his view, their crimes made them nothing more than dangerous animals that needed to be put down. Needless to say, his sense of morality is rather black-and-white. He believes wrongdoers deserve no mercy or forgiveness, even if they express guilt for their actions. Even little slights can easily provoke him into anger if they touch on his values.
Since the Fall, though, far less of Eren's anger has been directed at his fellow human beings. The titans took everything from him and far more yet from all humanity, and for that they earned his undying hatred. His desire to wipe them out is obsessive to the point of derangement. However, after joining the Recon Corps he's had to learn a little restraint as just mindlessly jumping into the fray costs lives. He's still not good at controlling his emotions, but at least at times he's capable of channeling his rage productively instead of just going berserk.
All this might make it sound like Eren is just a bundle of barely controlled borderline psychotic rage against all the world's injustices. While that's not an entirely inaccurate description, it's not all there is to him. He's deeply loyal to his friends and companions and would give his life to help them. He also trusts them deeply and is usually able to hand difficult situations over to others when he knows he needs help. The sole exception to that is Mikasa, whose overprotectiveness irritates him. He doesn't want to be seen as helpless or dependent on others, largely because of his desire to become stronger in order to reach his goals.
Though his intense nature and obsessiveness might easily turn him into a loner, Eren does seek out companionship. Though he can be cautious with strangers, after becoming acquainted he's quick to offer his trust and friendship. This willingness to trust others and believe the best about them makes it all the more insulting to him if he's betrayed. Outright hostility is something he's used to and knows how to deal with, but lies and pretenses are unacceptable.
Any differences: Alan shares many of the same traits as his preincarnation, but they a far less intense for him. Living without fear of titans, he never developed such strong feelings about freedom and justice. He does still admire the idea of such virtues, and enjoys the superhero genre for them, but he's never given much thought to upholding them himself. He's just a normal kid, after all. Saving the world or something might be cool, but he doesn't imagine he'd ever get a chance to do it. And anyway, getting worked up over stuff like that would just be weird, right?
He does get worked up over his art, though. It's the one thing to bring out intensity and passion similar to Eren's in him. He throws his all into it, even when his skill doesn't match his enthusiasm. Anyone or anything interfering with that invokes his anger - being able to express himself is extremely important for him, though he also enjoys the attention and admiration it can get him. Like most teenagers, he likes having something not everyone can do that allows him to stand out.
Where Eren would deal with conflicts by getting angry and fighting his way through, Alan is more likely to respond with abrasive words or sarcasm. He doesn't like to go out of his way to insult others, but if you give him crap he'll respond in kind. On the other hand, he's also less passionate in his positive relationships with others. He's more closed off to everyone expect those closest to him, as well as much less trusting. Time spent on the internet has taught him that the world is full of idiots and jerks, and he'll usually assume that people are going to be either one or both.
Abilities: Eren is a fully trained soldier and ranked 5th in his squad at graduation. Though he's fairly small in stature, he's very strong and agile, as necessary for the use of 3DM gear. In addition to the blades used as the primary tools of titan-killing, he's also trained in the basic use of flintlock guns and cannons as well as hand-to-hand combat against human opponents. He's especially skilled in the latter thanks to personal training from Annie and Reiner.
Additionally, he is a titan shifter - if he's bleeding (usually from biting his own finger) and has enough mental and physical stamina, he can transform into a 15m tall giant monster. As a titan, he's extraordinarily strong, able to punch another titan's head clean off and carry objects that seem far to heavy for his proportional size. Like all titans, he can also regenerate from any injury that doesn't target the nape of his neck. However, Eren is very inexperienced with his powers and has a lot of problems with them. Initially, he had trouble remaining conscious in his titan form, easily falling into a dreamlike state and losing control. The transformations are also physically draining for him - the more injuries or exertion he undergoes as a titan, the more tired and sick he'll be afterwards. He also retains the regenerative abilities in human form, though it is slower and more tiring than as a titan.
Roleplay Sample – Third Person: From the test drive meme! I hope that's a sufficient sample, but if not I will of course write a new one!
Roleplay Sample - Network: ok so Ive been trying to figure this thing out. like I have no idea how this shit works when Im not even online? or ON A COMPUTER??? what the fuck is that even. but I guess if jackets can appear out of nowhere its not that much of a leap to weird random number network things.
but anyway the point is that I saw some stuff about defending the earth? is that for real? because if so then fuck yes I am in.
also. whether or not this is for real or some crazyass arg? this network thing is seriously lacking some artwork. there needs to be a badass banner or something at least. I wouldnt mind whipping something up for you guys. no bragging or anything but Im a pretty good artist.
